Today the Country Director came to school with me and Nick and observed two of our lessons. Before he came for the 5th grade class, my counterpart was teaching them about using the third tense of verbs and using “Have you ever…” kind of format…
One kid (imagine cute round face, squinty eyes because he’s ALWAYS smiling) stood up with his partner and asked her,
“Have you ever spoken with a monkey?” <— he was totally serious.
“No, I haven’t… and you?” <— his partner (also, totally serious) btw, I’m in the back DYING
“Yes, yes I have.” [the teacher and I both lose it...]
Teacher asks, “Aslan, where did you speak to this monkey?”
“At the zoo.” He replies
“And what did you say to it?” The teacher asked.
“Hello, Monkey. How are you?” The student replied…
“And what did the monkey say to you?” The teacher asked.
Then Aslan put his hands under his armpits and jumped from side to side saying “oOo! Oo! AH! AH!”
…I almost died of happiness just then…
Then, later in class they were explaining two sentences dealing with things their partners HAD and HADN’T done…
Aslan stood up again and said this about his partner:
1. She has never spoken with a monkey.
2. She has written on the toilet.
WHAT?! Again, dying. I love my kiddos.
Cutest. Kids. EVER!
