Summer Camp Teacher Training

1.  Teacher Trainings (especially in the summer!!).  Teacher trainings are awesome because you can be fun and entertaining and see a difference side of teachers… It’s awesome to make them smile!

RIDING ON A CAMEL!

2.  ”Riding” on a camel is also pretty sweet.

Dombra Lessons!

3.  Nick is taking dombra lessons!! Now, if we can only get him to remember what songs he learns at the lesson!! :)

Custom Made Dobra from Pavlodar!

Also, I don’t know if you know this, but we were lucky enough to have our dombra custom-made by a dombra maker from Pavlodar! us = lucky!

Fall King and Queen

4.  Fall Ball!  This past Fall we host a Fall Ball for the 10th graders at Murager.  It was really cool and something super interesting they’d never before done… there was a costume contest, best recipe contest, talent show, friend Q & A, it was awesome.

Our first Flat Stanley from Palau!

5.  FLAT STANLEY!!  I hope you know about the Flat Stanley project!  If you don’t… WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN?  Flat Stanley is all the rage right now in Kazakhstan.  There are about 5 or 6 PCVs currently working on the project with their students and friends and family from home.  This is the little Stanley that started it all.  During our first couple months at site, I got an email from an awesome PCV in Palau.  She asked if I would host one of her students’ Flat Stanley!  I thought it was a cool project and so I joined… I’ve now done the project will over 200 students in Kazakhstan!

Sharing Flat Stanley with Kazakhstan!

One of the coolest things about the project is that friends and family back home get to share a piece of their lives with all of my friends and family here in Kazakhstan (and students, of course!).  IT is really fun when teachers write letters too and get their own Stanleys in the mail!  :)

I see the Pavlodar Dombra maker has become quite popular among the Americans! Glad to know you all are supporting Pavlodar business! I remember the first time Brian and i went there – the dude showed us the workshop, showed us the different models he makes, and was just an all-around pleasant man to talk to. I hope you’ll recommend him to other volunteers :-)
